The Woking based team Mclaren has not ruled out a move from them to sign the impressive Toro Rosso driver Caros Sainz Junior.
The Spaniard Caros Sainz has been linked to departure from his current team Toro Rosso for the 2018 Formula 1 season. Although Red Bull have insisted that Carlos Sainz should honor his contract with the team until 2019.
Earlier this month there were rumors that the Italian team Scuderia Ferrari is looking to sign Carlos Sainz for the next season.
When Mclaren boss Eric Boullier was asked about the 22 year old driver he said:
“I know him and I like him.
“Everyone in this paddock is an option,” he told Spain’s AS newspaper.
Stoffel Vandoorne is under a contract with Mclaren until 2018, although Mclaren has made it clear that they want to keep both drivers for the next season.
With the current situation at Mclaren and their constant engine issues, they might end up losing Fernando Alonso for the next season. The two time champion made it clear earlier this month that he will stay at Mcalren Honda if they manage to win races by September.
Taking note how the situation is going with the power unit Honda, it looks like Mclaren are far away from wining races again, and is more likely that Fernando Alonso is already looking other options for the 2018 Formula 1 season.
Eric Boullier admitted that if Mcalren try to bring Carlos Sainz for next season, his contract might be an issue.
“You have to look at the contracts and if he is free, but I like Carlos and he’s an option, yes,” said the Frenchman.
“Saying that, we want to keep Fernando and we hope he continues with us, to be the champion we want, and we also believe in Stoffel,” he added. “Those are our real options.”
